Electrical Spotters Course
22597VIC – Course in Workplace Spotting for Service Assets
Electrical Spotters Course Structure
This course consists of two units of competency.
HLTAID11 Provide First Aid (This unit can be completed before or after VU23165)
VU23165 Observe and manage the safe operation of plant and equipment around overhead and underground assets.
Where the full course is not completed, a VET Statement of Attainment will be issued for each unit successfully completed. 22597VIC Course in Workplace Spotting for service assets will not be awarded until evidence of both units is provided.
COVE recommends, as per the First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice and the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, that first aid skills are renewed every 3 years and resuscitation skills (HLTAID009 – CPR) are renewed every 12 months.
To work as an electrical Spotter
- A person must have a current competency to ‘Provide First Aid’ (HLTAID011) and
- A person must hold a current competency to ‘Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation’ (HLTAID009) and
- A person must have undertaken an approved Spotter training course (22597VIC) (Course in Workplace Spotting for Service Assets)

Career Options
Obtaining Your Registration
COVE uploads your details to the Energy Safe Victoria spotters register after course completion.
Pre-Requisites
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- Applicants will be required to undertake pre-course reading to ensure an understanding of the learning content that will be reviewed in the class contact time. These materials will be supplied to the students upon enrolment and payment of the course.
- A current Certificate of Competency in the operation of the plant(s) they are spotting for is required.
- COVE Training does not have CRICOS accreditation and is unable to train students on an ‘International Student’ VISA.
And Once Spotting:
- Competency in the form of Certificates/Statement of attainment from the relevant Training Package/accredited course, for each item of plant the spotter is spotting for in compliance with OHS legislative requirements.
